Frugal Friday Report

On Friday of each week, I plan to summarize a list of my weekly spending including how much I saved and savings percentage.  I am hoping to show how much I am saving and improving each week by using my new savy shopping skills! I had a pretty good week this week too, but probably because I didn't buy a whole lot.  I have been super busy this week with my daughter's preschool and out-of-town guests, so I didn't have many opportunities to shop...

at Meijer and $2 in Extra Care Bucks for CVS.

My Kroger Shopping

I just stopped off at Kroger tonight to snatch up a few deals, including the Big Game ($5/10 items).  While I was there I found a few new deals and ended getting 20 Big Game items.  Here's what I got:

Total  $      8.45

Tax  $           -

Total Paid  $      8.45
The Hunts Diced Tomato cans (15oz) were included in the Big Game, priced at $0.99 each.  There was a "blinkie" dispenser for $0.35/3 coupons.  I bought 9 cans and only paid $0.37/each (after coupon and $0.50/item Big Game discount).  I might go back for more later this week.  Also the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Sticks were included, priced at $1.99 minus $1/1 coupon (from 11-15 RP) minus $0.50 Big Game discount = $0.50/each!  There were a lot of great deals this week and it seemed that so many more were included in the Big Game sale that weren't advertised!

I saved a total of $29.09 for a 77% savings percentage!

My Weekly Budget

(image from www.piperreport.com)

I have decided on a $60 weekly grocery shopping budget.  This will include all household items cleaning supplies, toiletries, make-up, etc.  I have been spending about $60 per week lately, so I don't think it should be too hard to stick to it.  If we can stick to this, our annual grocery bill should be about $3100.

In addition, I would like to limit our restaurant visits to once per month and try to keep the bill to about $20.  I am going to try to limit fast-food (we are addicted to pizza) as well, but will try to keep it under $15 per month, which would be about $7-8 twice a month.

This will help limit my crazy spending sprees and buy the items we NEED the most.

I spent a total of $52.91 this week with a savings of $94.17 (64% savings).  I noticed that I am getting a little low on meat this week, so my total will probably go up next week.  I am going to look into getting a second refrigerator for my garage, so I can stock up on more meats when they go on sale and also make more freezer meals...

My Weekly Meijer Shopping Trip

I left Meijer today learning two lessons:
  • Lesson #1 - Don't bring your children with you when you shop.
  • Lesson #2 - Closely watch the total as your coupons are being scanned.
A few of my coupons didn't go through (for some reason it was the Meijer Mealbox ones), so I am trying to figure out if I should go back and ask.  I think Lesson #2 wouldn't have happened if I had followed Lesson #1 (I would've noticed the total NOT go down when my coupons were being scanned because I wouldn't been trying to keep my kids from screaming and spin the bagging circle).

Overall, I still made out pretty well:

The items in red were the the ones that some of my coupons didn't work for.  I saved a total of $48.81 (coupons + in-store savings) giving me a savings percentage of 66%.  If the three additional coupons had went through as planned, I would've saved another $2.75 and my savings % total could have been 70%!

* UPDATE - I did stop by Meijer the next day and was able to get my $2.75 back for the Meijer Mealbox coupons that didn't work, therefore I did save 70%!
