Unfortunately, I wasn't able to use my $18 in catalinas as I hoped.  The U-Scan registers were all closed, so I just went to a cashier.  I was embarrassed enough doing four separate transactions, so I didn't want to do even more to be able to use them (they won't roll if you use them consecutively - more on this at Bargains to Bounty).  So I still have the $18 in Catalinas to use on future purchases.  My REAL total would've been $23.50 with the Catalinas.  That's okay - I know I'll use them (maybe tonight ha ha!)

If you want to grab some of these great deals (good through Sat), head on over to Bargains to Bounty.

Frugal Friday Report

On Friday of each week, I plan to summarize a list of my weekly spending including how much I saved and my savings percentage.  I am hoping to show how much I am saving and improving each week by using my new savvy shopping skills...

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful day outside (at least in Metro-Detroit area).  I had a pretty good week again last week and was able to keep my spending under my $60 budget!  Wahoo!  And I am still able to feed my family! ;)   Here is what my week looked like:

Week # Start End Spending Savings Savings %
1 12/31 1/6  $    62.37  $   56.53 48%
2 1/7 1/13  $    59.15  $ 131.69 69%

14 4/1 4/7  $    86.97  $ 132.77 60%
15 4/8 4/14  $    30.60  $   52.85 63%
16 4/15 4/21  $    53.13  $   76.48 59%
17 4/22 4/28  $    49.01  $ 120.33 71%

And here is the graph:
(click on graph to view larger)

I had my highest savings percentage ever at 71%!!!  I spent a total of $49.01 and saved a whopping $120.33!  I didn't buy any pricey items like meat or pet supplies, so that helped.  Plus I snagged some pretty great deals.

Here were my favorites from last week:
  • $0.49 bottles of Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner at Rite Aid (from Coupon Crazy Chrys)
  • $0.50 bottles of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing, plus free head of lettuce wyb 2 at Meijer
  • *free* Greenworks Cleaning Products at Meijer
  • *free* Cottage Doubles at Meijer
  • *free* reusable grocery bag at Kroger
  • $0.49 Kraft Mac-n-Cheese 5-packs at the Meijer Super Sale, plus each 5-pack had a coupon for a free box of Roarin' Waters on it!  This comes out to $0.10 per box(or less considering the free drinks)!
All these great grocery deals were found at Bargain to Bounty, Thanks Jolyn!

3 Mother's Day Cards for $2.97 Shipped to Your Recipient!

*Update - This deal has expired!

I just bought three 5x7 Mother's Day cards (one for my mom, one for my mother-in-law and one for my aunt) for only $2.97 shipped to their homes!  Here's how to do it:

(1) Login to your Shutterfly account (or create a new one - it's free).
(2) Click on "My Shutterfly".
(3) At the bottom, click on "Enter special offer code" link.
(4) Type in code: CARDS4MOM (this code gives you three free 5x7 folded greeting cards)
(5) Create three (3) 5x7 folded greeting cards and add to cart (once you view your cart, the cards should be free).

At this point you can have the cards shipped to you for only $1 total shipping or you can have all three mailed directly to your recipient for $3 ($1 each).  I had all three of mine shipped directly to the mom's in my life considering I would've had to use a $0.44 stamp on each when I mailed them out.  Plus, this way the cards will get there quicker, hopefully by Mother's Day (fingers crossed)!

Thanks, SD!

I have taken my kids to the Jungle Java in Farmington Hills and they LOVE it!  We have spent hours there at a time.  Jungle Java serves food too, so you can stay for lunch or dinner as well.  The expiration date is 9/30/10 so you'll have all summer to use up all five passes.  There are Jungle Java locations in Ann Arbor, Canton and Farmington Hills.

Happy Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day 2010, I wanted to make a list of all the things we can do everyday to make our earth a cleaner & happier place to live.

  • Turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.
  • Don't let the water run while shaving or brushing teeth.
  • Keep drinking water in the refrigerator instead of letting the faucet run until the water is cool.
  • Buy permanent items instead of disposables.
  • Clean out juice bottles and use them for water.
  • Donate extras to people you know or to charity instead of throwing them away.
  • Recycle paper (printer paper, newspapers, mail, etc.), plastic, glass bottles, cardboard, and aluminum cans.
  • Use the microwave to cook small meals. (It uses less power than an oven.)
  • Cut back on air conditioning and heating use if you can.
  • Insulate your home, water heater and pipes.
  • Buy products with less packaging.
  • Reuse boxes.
  • Buy and use only what you need.
  • Water the lawn or garden during the coolest part of the day (early morning is best).
  • Keep your yard healthy - dethatch, use mulch, etc.
  • Compost food scraps, grass and other yard clippings, and dead plants.
All these ideas and more can be found at the EPA's website:  http://www.epa.gov/earthday/take-action.html.

Happy Earth Day!

Frugal Friday Report

On Friday of each week, I plan to summarize a list of my weekly spending including how much I saved and my savings percentage.  I am hoping to show how much I am saving and improving each week by using my new savvy shopping skills...

You may have noticed that I didn't post my Frugal Friday report last week, because I was out of town for Easter weekend.  So I will play catch-up and cover the last two weeks!  Two weeks ago was a really big spending week at $87 ($27 over budget), but this past week I only spent about $30, so both weeks combined average out to about my $60 budget:

Week # Start End Spending Savings Savings %
1 12/31 1/6  $    62.37  $   56.53 48%
2 1/7 1/13  $    59.15  $ 131.69 69%
3 1/14 1/20  $    52.91  $   94.17 64%
4 1/21 1/27  $    40.44  $   37.69 48%
5 1/28 2/3  $    97.22  $ 188.26 66%
6 2/4 2/10  $    51.74  $   81.17 61%
7 2/11 2/17  $    89.21  $ 104.29 54%
8 2/18 2/24  $    39.64  $   91.00 70%
9 2/25 3/3  $    56.41  $   69.49 55%
10 3/4 3/10  $    53.23  $   96.32 64%
11 3/11 3/17  $    63.54  $ 107.08 63%
12 3/18 3/24  $    28.97  $   17.02 37%
13 3/25 3/31  $    59.78  $   69.93 54%
14 4/1 4/7  $    86.97  $ 132.77 60%
15 4/8 4/14  $    30.60  $   52.85 63%

Here is my graph:

(Click on graph to view larger)

My weekly spending was at $86.97 and $30.60 for the past couple weeks, with savings percentages of 60% and 63%.  I was able to reach a high savings percentage last week because of the Meijer 10 for $10, get 11th for Free sale.

My favorite grocery shopping deal was two free (yes, free!) Rotisserie chickens.  I happened to be strolling by the deli section at about 10:30pm on Friday evening and a lady working behind the deli counter asked if I wanted a free chicken or two because they were getting ready to throw them out (as they do every night).  I said, "Of course" and took two.  When I went through the self-checkout I just had to remind the cashier that they were supposed to be free and he took $10 off!  Yippee!  I am planning on having a freezer cooking day and preparing 4 batches of Chicken Noodle Soup and one or two batches of Biscuit Topped Chicken Pot Pies.  I plan on using all my free (or almost free) Pillsbury biscuits on top of the chicken pot pies.   More on the almost free biscuits at Bargains to Bounty (Thanks, Jolyn)!

Free Scotch-Brite Sponges at Kroger - This Weekend (4/17-4/18)

*Update - this deal is dead!

If you happen to be shopping at Kroger today or tomorrow (4/17-4/18), you might want to grab a few FREE Scotch-Brite Sponges.   The single packs of sponges (Heavy Duty, pictured above) are on sale for $1 and with this $1/1 coupon (click here), you can get them for free!  The coupon is actually a pdf file so you can print it out as many times as you want.

The 3-packs are also on sale for $1.88 so with the $1/1 you could snag these for $0.88 - not too bad for three high-quality sponges.

I think I'll opt for the free single packs though!

Late Frugal Friday Report!

On Friday of each week, I plan to summarize a list of my weekly spending including how much I saved and savings percentage.  I am hoping to show how much I am saving and improving each week by using my new savvy shopping skills...

This past week I went a little overboard on my spending ($27 over budget) and went shopping to much!   I am guessing my totals will be down again this week, because I had a really late shopping trip at the end of last week that will carry me further this week!  Here's what my week looked like:

Week # Start End Spending Savings Savings %
1 12/31 1/6  $    62.37  $   56.53 48%
2 1/7 1/13  $    59.15  $ 131.69 69%
3 1/14 1/20  $    52.91  $   94.17 64%
4 1/21 1/27  $    40.44  $   37.69 48%
5 1/28 2/3  $    97.22  $ 188.26 66%
6 2/4 2/10  $    51.74  $   81.17 61%
7 2/11 2/17  $    89.21  $ 104.29 54%
8 2/18 2/24  $    39.64  $   91.00 70%
9 2/25 3/3  $    56.41  $   69.49 55%
10 3/4 3/10  $    53.23  $   96.32 64%
11 3/11 3/17  $    63.54  $ 107.08 63%
12 3/18 3/24  $    28.97  $   17.02 37%
13 3/25 3/31  $    59.78  $   69.93 54%
14 4/1 4/7  $    86.97  $ 132.77 60%

Here is my chart:

I spent a total of $86.97 (about $27 over budget) and saved $132.77, which is 60% savings.  Luckily my average weekly spending is still at $60 ($60.11 to be exact) and it's okay to go over budget as long as I go under budget too!  I am hoping to stay under budget this week, but all the Sale at Meijer this week: 10 for $10, get 11th for free might get me buying too much (see more on this at Bargains to Bounty)!  :)
